Ways to fight stress and anxiety
Stress has taken the shape of an epidemic spread worldwide over the course of last decade, the lifestyle opted by today’s generation can be considered a major reason. As found out by various conducted studies, stress can be a basis or the base for further development of other mental disorders. Exposure to stress for a long period of time can lead to a mental and emotional state which can be uncomfortable, unbearable and interfere with daily functioning.
However, if you are too struggling with high levels of stress. Following are the proven ways which can help you combat this demon and be more productive with your life.
1.MEDITATION
Meditation is not only about sitting in a place and forcefully diverting all your attention towards a particular object. Meditation can be practised anytime at any place. However it is recommended to go for a more quiet atmosphere, it can prove to be more fruitful and fulfilling.
- HOW TO
All you need to do is before starting off just take a deep breath. Take it easy on yourself and your mind, meditating does not have to be harsh and forcefully done.
Gently close your eyes and tilt your head upwards, its always good to have a support at the back of your neck.
Let everything pass away let time fly by, bring your attention to your bodily functions, the pattern and passage your breathing follows, the sensation of your heartbeat. Let it stay for at least 6–7 minutes.
Stealthily diverting your attention from inside of your body to the outside world, the noises of activities being carried out by other people, everything happening around you for 3–4 minutes .
Slowly open your eyes rub your palms and then gently wipe off your eyebrow and eye area.
This meditation where attention is focused towards activities taking place around you is known as ‘MINDFULNESS’.
2.THINKING RATIONALLY
Most of the times when going through high levels of stress there is a tendency of humans to think in a pattern which can seem to be irrational and irrelevant. This thinking pattern may further evoke feelings like apprehension, fear, cringe which probably most of the times lack any relevant feature.
The way we think and the way we feel are closely connected. So it is important to drive away negative and anxiety provoking thoughts. Try to stay in the present and focusing on positive aspects of your life, maybe parents, friends or any other trusting person.
3.SEEKING FOR SUPPORT
The main and the most important part is getting social support. Family, friends, teachers, trusted people. There will always be someone in everyone’s life who will be their main and strong support and motivation system. It is important to know how precious this support becomes when it comes to difficult life circumstances.
