Know your Psyche- Conscious, Subconscious and Unconscious.
Have you ever wondered where our thoughts, our ideas, our inferences and our beliefs originate from? We carry out certain behaviours without thinking, what is the driving force of our behaviours actually? Why our thought patterns are the way they are and why is it that difficult to change them, change behaviours that are run by them? Well, I have a single word for all of these questions, and that is your ‘subconscious’. Well, I believe this is not the first time you are hearing about subconscious, but if you are, then let’s first discuss what subconscious is.
Conscious
The famous Austrian neurologist Sigmund Frued proposed a hypothetical structure of our psyche, the human psyche. Conscious, Subconscious and Unconscious. Now, the state of consciousness is when you are aware of things around you, your external and internal existence. All the cognitive functions of your brain, decision making, problem solving, remembering, thinking, physical movements, all is driven by your consciousness. You are reading this blog, and you are aware of doing so, that is your consciousness.
Unconscious
Then comes the unconscious mind, where all the non pleasant, repressed thoughts and feelings are buried. It is like a vast reservoir of feelings, or may I say neglected feelings. Something which is too threatening to become aware of, and probably your unconscious is something you are never going to get access of, according to the psychologists.
Subconscious
Finally, Subconscious, the strong player of human psyche everybody talks of. So what is subconscious, if conscious mind holds every thing you are aware of and unconscious mind holds everything you are never going to get aware of, the subconscious is the layer between your conscious and unconscious. So, it is mainly your subconscious that runs your entire business of behaviour, something you can get access to if you want to. So, this is something you can influence to get better in life, but how?
Let’s start from here, you are basically a product of societal norms, ideas, thought patterns and culture. Everything you’ve learnt so far, it’s because there are ideas being put into your mind since you were born. Everything you believe is true, or right is the consequence of you being fed with those ideas since a long long time. Only people who manage to earn a damn lot of money can be considered successful in life, where were you taught this, you probably won’t recall someone teaching you this directly, but it is the same information you’ve been consuming for a long time. If today, you know how to label a person on the basis of their colour, say black people, brown people, brown people, and Asians, now even reading these labels, you would see, there are certain images that come to your mind. But just think for once, if it wasn’t for the information that is being fed to you, that is being taught to you, you wouldn’t even bother to attribute inferences to people based on their colour.
Talking about making your life better by putting your subconscious to play, we will learn about that too.
